Balance is our Black and White Tegu—and one of the best examples of just how smart and surprising lizards can be. Curious, confident, and great with supervised interactions, Balance helps guests see reptiles in a whole new light while staying calm and approachable during programs.
Tegus are packed with cool facts. They’re one of the few reptiles known to show seasonal warm-blooded behavior (they can raise their body temperature during breeding season), and they’re also highly intelligent—often learning routines, recognizing their keepers, and exploring their environment like a tiny dinosaur with a mission. Unlike many lizards, tegus are also omnivores, eating a mix of fruits, vegetables, and protein in the wild.
During Repterience events, Balance is a cornerstone animal for teaching about reptile adaptations, responsible care, and the important role reptiles play in healthy ecosystems. Whether you’re meeting a lizard for the first time or you’re already a reptile fan, Balance tends to turn “What is that?” into “Okay… I need to learn more.”
